Bell
Canada is Canada's largest communications company. Through
its operations that span across the country and into the United
States, Bell Canada provides residential and business customers
with telecommunications products and services.
After a decision by the CTRC (Canadian Radio-television
and Telecommunications Commission) to revise the procedure
for processing orders, Bell Canada was required to revise
their sales order process and subsequent systems.
Working
with CGI Group, who were selected by Bell to integrate the
delta into existing systems, Perform Marketing developed a
training strategy that offers an optimal learning environment
for more than 1800 employees, while managing maintenance issues
and scalability.
The Bell Canada e-Learning Program uses Adobe
Flash because of its' open development platform, integrated
media components, animation and data sources such as XML.
Add to this, the framework to create a modular architecture
and the ability to publish to the web, CD-ROM or hard drive
with a click of the button, Flash allowed our developers
to work efficiently to reach the end goal.
The
solution is comprised of 22 separate lessons offered in both
English and French. Users log-on through the Bell Learning
Management System and enter into the lesson menu. Users may
select lessons from the list in no particular order. Once
selected, the lessons teach users how to perform various tasks
step by step using animated simulations and supporting text.
The navigation panel offers an intuitive toolbox
for users to take advantage of all programs features. Complete
with a progress bar, electronic notepad for taking notes and
a popup menu housing all of the lessons, users have the ability
to take control of the learning experience.
The benefits of Perform Marketing's design and
development of this project are that we minimized the bandwidth
demands by creating a component-based architecture, which
only downloads lessons, which are selected. Secondly, the
intuitive nature of the layout and navigation panel offers
a great user experience. And finally, using screen shots of
the actually software, coupled with animated simulations,
the end solution offers a great learning environment.
